Surgical Dermatology

Standard surgery

This includes standard surgical techniques for the excision of benign lesions for cosmetic reasons, as well as skin cancers. Skin cancer surgery in particular may require more advanced techniques such as flaps and grafts to obtain the best result. This type of surgery can be performed in the fully-equipped operating theatres at Inner Sydney Dermatology, or in the Day Surgery Centre at Westmead Skin and Cancer Foundation.

Most operations require a separate booking time, which will be arranged at the time of your consultation. If your Dermatologist feels that your condition requires urgent treatment, every effort will be made to perform your surgery as soon as possible.

Mohs’ Micrographic Surgery

Mohs’ Micrographic Surgery is a specialized technique developed to treat particular skin cancers. It is the ‘gold standard’ of treatment for difficult and recurrent skin cancers, or those in cosmetically important sites such as the nose or upper lip. It has the highest cure rate of any treatment modality.

There are currently only twelve fully trained and accredited Mohs’ surgeons in NSW, all of whom are Dermatologists who have undertaken extra training in this field. This includes both Dr Michelle Hunt and Dr Simon Lee, who perform this type of surgery at the Skin and Cancer Foundation, Westmead.
